• 2 pounds of ground beef
  • 1 (48 oz) jar of spaghetti sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 (16 oz) package of medium egg noodles
  • 1/2 cup of margarine or butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion salt (or onion powder)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt (or garlic powder)
  • 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 (12 oz) package of shredded mozzarella cheese

  • Green bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms, sautéed (add to taste)

  1. Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Mix in the spaghetti sauce and sugar with the browned meat. Let this combination simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. While the sauce simmers, cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions until they are al dente. Once cooked, drain the noodles and then toss them with the margarine (or butter), onion salt (or onion powder), garlic salt (or garlic powder), and grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. Prepare two 9×13 inch baking pans by spraying them with non-stick cooking spray.
  6. In each pan, create layers starting with half of the meat sauce, followed by all of the noodle mixture, and then the remaining meat sauce. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of each casserole.
  7. Cover the pans with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.
  8. For an added twist, consider incorporating sautéed green bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms into the meat sauce for added flavor and texture. Adjust these additions based on personal preference or dietary restrictions of whoever will be enjoying the casserole.
