fried green tomatoes


Ingredients of the method of making fried green tomatoes:
° 2 liters vegetable oil, for frying
° ½ 1 cup all-purpose flour
° 1 teaspoon kosher salt, with an extra amount for spraying
° ½ 1 teaspoon fresh black pepper
° ½ cup buttermilk
° 4 large eggs
° 2 cups yellow cornmeal
° 1 cup rusk bread crumbs
° 4 green tomatoes (about 1 pound), sliced ​​14 inch thick
Tools : thermometer for deep frying
How to make fried green tomatoes:
1- For green fried tomatoes: pour the vegetable oil into an oven frying pan or deep saucepan and set the thermometer in it. Heat oil on medium heat to 340 degrees F . Line an oven tray with paper towels and place them on a cooling rack.

  1. Prepare 3 dishes, add to the first dish: flour, salt and black pepper and stir well. On the second dish, whisk the milk with the eggs. On the third plate, add the cornmeal and rusk.
    3- Using one hand, dip the tomato slices in the seasoned flour on both sides, then shake each piece to get rid of any excess flour.
    4- Then, using the other hand, place the tomato slices in the egg mixture, and leave them slightly over the bowl to allow any additional eggs to spill.
  2. Using your first hand, cover the sliced ​​tomatoes in the rusk mixture evenly on both sides of it.
  3. Divide the tomatoes into, and gently put the tomatoes in the hot oil. Fry until dark golden and crunchy, about 30 seconds per side. Transfer the tomatoes to a cooling rack, then sprinkle each slice with more salt.
