  •  1 tablespoon whole allspice
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
  • Brandy, Calvados (apple brandy), or bourbon (optional)
